"Islands in the Sun" Project

Have you noticed the magnificent transformation of the 4 islands located at Shallowford /I-85 interchange?!?  Prior to 2004, the area was an eyesore of overgrown weeds & trash. Now, this entry into our DECA neighborhoods boasts a beautiful landscape of flowers, shrubs and trees!

We have DECA member, Nikki VanDerGrinten to thank for spearheading this project. From it's inception, DECA, North Briarcliff Civic Association (NBCA) & St Pius Alumni Association developed & have maintained their respective gardens.  Dozens of volunteers from these groups have dedicated their time, tools, professional talents, and plants from their own yards to make these islands the beautiful site you see today.

Thanks to everyone who has volunteered to work on the islands and/or has donated money or professional services to the cause.
