Century Center Annexation Update

On November 5th we voted to annex into the City of Chamblee. Effective December 30th, we are residents of Chamblee! Unfortunately, due to an ongoing appeal by Highwoods Properties, the majority of Century Center remains a part of unincorporated DeKalb until their appeal can be heard.

Last week, the DECA Board of Directors unanimously passed the attached resolution asking Highwoods Properties to discontinue any and all legal action regarding annexation of the Century Center property. A copy of the resolution was sent to Jim Bacchetta, Vice President of the Atlanta region for Highwoods Properties, as well as other representatives of Highwoods.

The State of Georgia Court of Appeals has granted Highwoods’ request for stay to prevent the contested issues from becoming moot and thereby enjoined the City of Chamblee from proceeding with the annexation of the Century Center property owned by Highwoods until resolution of their appeal. The Court also denied part of Highwoods’ motion to expedite the consideration of the appeal and to issue supersedes as to the order being appealed.

Stay tuned to the DECA Facebook and Yahoo group for updates on this very important issue.
