3rd Biennial DeKalb County Emergency Preparedness Festival

About The Festival:

There will be disaster and emergency preparedness information and demonstrations presented by numerous volunteer and non-profit organizations as well as DeKalb County EMA. Created as a festival the whole family can enjoy, festival goers will see presentations and displays on family and neighborhood disaster response and fire safety and crime prevention. There also will be information about how to care for pets during a crisis. Adults and children can participate in interactive displays and be eligible for door prizes.

About DEMA
DEMA coordinates the response of local agencies ensuring the most appropriate resources are dispatched to the impacted areas in a time of a disaster. Through various programs DEMA works with local governments, volunteer organizations and the private sector throughout DeKalb County to develop and teach disaster preparedness plans, mitigation activities and provide training and exercise evaluations. Furthermore, DEMA is a primary responder during acts of terrorism and other emergencies that threaten citizens and the County of DeKalb.

The following is a brief explanation of DEMA responsibilities:

  • Maintain and Develop all local emergency management programs, projects and plans required by state and federal government.
  • Maintain the Emergency Operations Center (EOC) for DeKalb County, Clarkston, Pine Lake, Stone Mountain, Chamblee, Doraville, Avondale Estates, and the City of Decatur.
  • Act as a liaison with local, state and federal authorities during major emergencies and disasters.
  • Provide 24-hour coordination of resources for emergencies and disasters.
